Java Application Developer/ Linux Administrator

Developed and enhanced a LIMS system – Laboratory Information System. Worked directly with researchers developing code to help manage automated experiments and manage work flow. Also wrote a drop box application for sharing and storage of files.

Made many modifications to the PHP open source HESK software.

Unix Project Engineer for Tru64 Unix and Linux working on Alpha and Intel based servers. Acted as both hands-on Unix systems engineer and project manager providing support for a large VAR (ADP) with over 10,000 server installation base. Responsible for replication and solution of a diverse set of problems including:

Served as on-site vendor representative for Compaq Computer. Had daily face-to-face contacts with ADP management and engineering staff.

NIKE.COM
June 1999 - Oct 2000

Technical Web Master/Web Developer-Architect. Responsible for final testing and live content for the nike.com site. Worked with Javascript, PERL, Servlets and JDBC, ServletExec 2.2 and Content Management tool development to assist the creative team at Nike. Developed a PERL based CGI generation application for data collection. Assisted with system administration duties on extensive Sun network. Akamaized all web content and incorporated it into production process. Developed libraries of Javascript code to address browser compatiability issues.

OREGON HEALTH SCIENCE UNIVERSITY
March 1998 - June 1999

Senior Unix System Administrator working in the Digital Alpha Server/Sun Solaris and HP-UX environments. Performed system installs/configuration and all aspects of Unix system maintenance and networking.

Projects include development of an enterprise account database and a custom web based system monitoring tool.

This included:

Worked in Oracle 7.2.4/Perl DBI, HTML, Java and javascript. Also setup and maintained server in a Y2K testing lab.

W3Controls
June 1997-Feb. 1998

Developed reporting tools for Internet filter/monitoring product in Java 1.1. Development included writing user interface/controls, graphics and plotting. Worked with the JCLASS java libraries and java.awt.

HEWLETT PACKARD COMPANY
June 1995 -March 1998

Member of 5 person team supporting over 1000 Unix servers and workstations at HP’s largest site (7,000 users) in Corvallis, Oregon. Worked on NT/Unix integration, web server infrastructure. Maintained and modified customized Samba network source code. All modification were contributed to the official Samba source code. System administration duties included, system/kernel tuning, software upgrades, PERL and shell scripting, JAVA/PERL/CGI and HTML web design and Oracle DBA work (to support Open View). Wrote web application which allowed for Unix and network administration from the Web.

I also worked on automation of security procedures for over 700 Unix computers at Hewlett Packard Vancouver. This including writing and maintaining software to automatically manage password aging, running crack and medusa security software.

WELLS FARGO BANK
June 1994 - June 1995

Project manager and technical advisor to large migration of trust accounting system managing several billion dollars worth of assets. Migration was from a Prime system to RS6000 /AIX 4.2. New application was written in the Universe database.

1. Performed all the data extraction and mapping.

This included going through Fortran code and indexed files on the old application (Prime 50 series) and learning the application and file layouts as there was no one within the organization familiar with this system. I wrote the programs that performed the data extraction and then worked with the Vendor of the new software and mapped data field by field into the new data files.

2. System Administration

Set the new system - an IBM RS6000 running AIX 4.2. Also setup all the terminal and printer communication.

3. Database Administration.

Installed the Universe Database and performed the configuration and setup system security.

4. Vendor Management.

Worked directly with the vendor (PetroData) to insure that the new environment at Wells Fargo would work with their application and insure work was delivered before deadlines.

5. Database Development.

Enhanced the new trust accounting system by developing EIS (Executive Information System) interface to new application using the Forest and Trees product on an ODBC connection. Rewrote many database reports in Universe SQL and Universe Basic.

Mar 1990 - June 1994

Provided consulting and internet expertise to a large state agency. Responsible for Internet web site and all internet infrastructure. Environment consisted of a large Unix and PC statewide network.
